Techniques

The aim of a Chiropractor is always the same: to restore the proper function to the body to allow it to reach its full potential. Chiropractic techniques are modified to suit people from all walks of life. Our Chiropractors are specially qualified to work with children, pregnant women and the elderly. We also have vast experience dealing with athletes and sports injuries.

With such a variety of patients and potential conditions, we naturally use many techniques to reach that same end result. Different techniques work more effectively for different people, hence the large number of different ones!

Further detail on techniques

We have outlined more information on some of our more common techniques below. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Diversified

This technique is the main manual technique associated with the “cracking” sound. Surprisingly, these sounds – perfectly safe and normal – are actually adjustments caused by a change in the pressure of the joint and formation and the audible collapse of a nitrogen bubble. The process is called a cavitation, and a similar effect happens in nature in the underwater attack method of the pistol shrimp!

Back on dry land, the cavitation itself has little or no therapeutic effect. The therapeutic effect actually comes from the movement of the joint and the associated changes in neurology. The aim of an adjustment is to restore ideal movement and alignment of the spine and limbs to relieve pain and prevent re-occurrence of injuries. These techniques are very comfortable and often people feel better quite quickly, which in part is due to an endorphin release as the body begins to heal itself.

SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique)

This technique is a comprehensive, gentle and holistic chiropractic system of analysis of the relationship between the sacrum (our foundation of support) and the occiput (base of the skull). It aims to assist the pumping of CSF (cerebro-spinal fluid) from the base of the spine, up the spinal canal to the brain and also lubricate the nervous system and joints. Essentially, this assists the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord.

This method may be effectively used in pre-conceptive care, during pregnancy, for babies, adults and through to the elderly. Whether you are non-active or an elite sports person, SOT aims at balancing and keeping the body functioning at its own optimum level.

Thompson Drop Piece

This technique is based on over 50 years of research and utilises a very expensive and specialised table. The method applies the law of ‘inertia’ by using segmental drop pieces of the table to adjust joints of the spine, pelvis and peripheral joints. Many people enjoy this technique as it gets a similar effect to a manual adjustment without the cracking sound!

TBM (Total Body Modification)

Total Body Modification is dedicated to health practitioners who have realised that this human body of ours functions as an integrated unit, rather than as separate parts.

We, in TBM, are able to test and correct most of the body functions. The human body is an integrated unit, doesn’t always fit the logic that we have been taught in Therefore, we have had to expand our thinking to accept the clinical responses that we achieve using TBM. We find that body functions which we were taught were separate activities, in actuality, interact and communicate with each other in a myriad of complex pathways.

We use a simple indicator neuromuscular reflex muscle test and test points located throughout the body to determine the positive or negative function of that body.

TBM has found that by using the test points and an indicator muscle, we can test the various computer programs within the system. Then, using energetic and soft tissue corrections, we can re-align the function of specific computer programs, thereby restoring function and communication with the body.
